GUIDE • MATERIALS

Choose for the conditions,
not just the name.

Compare PLA, PETG, ABS and polyamide for your task. We confirm the specific material’s availability and production conditions after reviewing your model.

Describe the environment first

Will the part be indoors or outdoors? Will it be near heat, exposed to impacts, repeatedly flexed or continuously loaded? Describe the likely conditions and critical connections. If a parameter is unknown, flag it in your enquiry rather than assuming that any plastic will be suitable.

PLA: assessing shape and appearance

PLA is commonly used for appearance models and early prototypes. Its lower heat and impact resistance limit its use. It should not be selected for sustained outdoor or hot conditions without a specific assessment. In your LeoPrint 3D enquiry, explain whether you need to check appearance, size or fit.

PETG: stiffness is not the only factor

PETG is generally tougher and more heat resistant than PLA. It is also used for holders and technical parts, but suitability depends on the specific filament and design. It is not automatic evidence of food-contact suitability or performance in every outdoor setting. Production availability at LeoPrint 3D needs separate confirmation.

ABS: technical requirements and harder processing

ABS can be useful for parts with higher mechanical and temperature requirements. During printing, it is more prone to warping and needs controlled conditions and ventilation. UV exposure also matters when choosing it. K2 Pro supports ABS; the specific filament and production task are agreed individually.

Nylon (PA): wear and moisture

Polyamide is considered for technical parts where wear resistance and toughness matter. It absorbs moisture, so preparation and storage are important. Different PA grades and filled variants are not interchangeable. A particular material and production feasibility need to be established before promising a result.

Why a material table is not enough

Manufacturer data describes a particular product and test conditions. A finished printed part also depends on its geometry and manufacturing process. For an important connection, agree on a sample, measurable acceptance criteria and a check in the intended application.

What to include in your enquiry

Send a file or sketch, dimensions, quantity, operating environment and requirements that cannot change. For example: “An indoor display stand, away from heat sources; stability and a legible logo are essential.” If you require a material other than PLA, contact us to discuss feasibility first.
